Plastering & Rendering Norfolk FAQ

Plastering & Skimming
How long does plaster take to dry?
Standard plaster usually takes 2–3 days to dry, depending on room temperature and ventilation. Larger areas or colder rooms may take slightly longer.

Can you plaster over old walls?
Yes — in most cases we can skim over existing plaster as long as it’s sound. If the surface is damaged, blown or uneven, we may recommend repairs or overboarding first.

Do I need to remove wallpaper before plastering?
Yes. Wallpaper must be fully removed to ensure proper adhesion and a long‑lasting finish.

Artex Removal
Can you skim over Artex?
Yes — skimming over Artex is the most popular and cost‑effective method. It creates a smooth, modern finish without the mess of scraping.

Does Artex contain asbestos?
Some older Artex (pre‑2000) may contain asbestos. If needed, we can arrange testing before work begins.

Ceiling Repairs
Can you repair part of a ceiling without replacing the whole thing?
Absolutely. We can carry out patch repairs, reboard small areas or skim the entire ceiling depending on the level of damage.

What causes a sagging ceiling?
Common causes include water leaks, age, movement or failed plasterboard fixings. We can assess the issue and recommend the safest repair.

Rendering
What’s the difference between sand & cement render and silicone render?

  • Sand & cement render is traditional, strong and ideal for older properties.

  • Silicone render is flexible, coloured, low‑maintenance and resistant to cracking.

We can advise which is best for your home.

Do you offer K‑Rend, monocouche and thin coat systems?
Yes — we install all modern render systems including K‑Rend, silicone, monocouche, thin coat and lime render.

External Wall Insulation (EWI)
Will EWI reduce my energy bills?
Yes — EWI can reduce heat loss by up to 45%, making your home warmer and more energy‑efficient.

Can EWI be installed on older homes?
Yes — it’s ideal for solid‑wall properties, cottages and older brick homes with no cavity insulation.
